Chennai is a cosmopolitan city and houses people belonging to different religions, regions, castes, and creed. Therefore, in a way, the city celebrates all the festivals celebrated in India. However, the majority of the population is formed by the Tamil speaking South Indian residents, who celebrate their own set of fairs and festivals. As a result, all the offices and business organizations remain closed on these days and observe holidays.
